The Department of German Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific symposium entitled “Transformations of the German Language in the Modern Era: From Standard to Dialects in Social Media.” The symposium featured contributions from the Head of Department, Professor Maysoun Ali Arzouqi, Assistant Professor Dr. Uday Hatem Mahmoud, and Assistant Professor Ali Hussein Abdulmajid Al-Zubaidi, with the attendance of several faculty members and students.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of remote work and its significance in the digital age, highlighting the active role women play in the labor market through this modern approach. It also addressed how remote work contributes to women’s economic and social empowerment, promotes a culture of flexible employment, and supports balancing professional and family responsibilities. In addition, participants were encouraged to develop technical and administrative skills to meet the demands of remote work.

At the conclusion of the symposium, participants recommended focusing on the linguistic practices prevalent across social networks and analyzing them to provide explanatory models that assist learners. They also emphasized the importance of studying the diversity of modern vocabulary used in daily life. The recommendations further stressed the need to research local Arabic dialects within Iraq and identify the most suitable equivalents in German, while treating digital platforms as a living source of contemporary vocabulary—without neglecting the solid linguistic foundations that ensure grammatically and academically sound expression.

This symposium contributes to achieving one of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 4, which calls for Quality Education.
