The Department of Biology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “Leech Therapy and Its Benefits in Alternative Medicine”, delivered by Lecturer Dr. Batool Kazem Habeeb, with attendance from academic staff, students, and individuals interested in medical topics.

The workshop aimed to provide an overview of the medicinal leech and its therapeutic applications, highlighting the properties of its active saliva, which prevents blood clotting and numbs the affected area, in addition to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory characteristics.

It also addressed the mechanisms and techniques of leech therapy as a form of complementary medicine, while exploring its broader medical uses.

This activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3, which advocates for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, as well as Goal 4, which promotes quality education.
