The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “From Innovation to Ownership: A Practical Guide to Obtaining a Patent.” The session was led by Professor Dr. Saddam Hakim Jiyad and attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The workshop aimed to highlight the significance of innovation and patents in both economic and scientific contexts. It introduced participants to the prevailing laws that protect intellectual property and outlined the practical steps required to obtain a patent.

The workshop recommended placing greater emphasis on creativity and adhering to the correct procedures issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control for patent registration. It stressed the importance of clearly presenting the outcomes of the invention to demonstrate its innovative value, completing the patent application form, providing original or certified documents, paying the required fees, and ensuring that the invention is novel, industrially applicable, and compliant with public order and morality.

This initiative contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4, which advocates for quality education.
