Dr. Khaled Kadhim Abdul-Kanani, Head of the Pharmaceutics Branch at the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad, represented Iraq in the Pharmaconex 2026 conference and exhibition, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the participation of a select group of experts, specialists, and representatives of pharmaceutical institutions and companies from various countries around the world.
Dr. Abdul-Kanani delivered a scientific lecture titled “Localizing Pharmaceutical Manufacturing in Iraq: Opportunities in Generic Medicines, Biopharmaceuticals, and Technology Transfer,” which included an overview of the current state of the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq, along with the key opportunities and potential for localizing the manufacture of generic medicines and biopharmaceuticals. The lecture also addressed the ongoing developments in the pharmaceutical sector and the promising prospects for advancing the national industry.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), by contributing to strengthening pharmaceutical security, ensuring the availability of medicines, and developing the health industries; Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), by supporting the localization of pharmaceutical industries and the transfer of technology and innovation; and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), through enhancing cooperation and communication with international institutions and expertise.
