Under the patronage of the Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, and in the presence of the Assistant President of the University of Baghdad for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razaq Al-Hashemi, the President of the Arab Police Sports Federation, Major General Khalid Al-Attiyah, a large number of federation presidents and Arab delegations, the President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, and prominent security, social, and sports figures, the University of Baghdad hosted the 2025 Arab Police Cross Country Championship, organized by the Police Sports Federation with the participation of eleven Arab countries.

The opening ceremony featured distinguished segments that reflected the spirit of Arab brotherhood, followed by a speech from the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, who welcomed the participating delegations to their “second homeland, Iraq,” before officially announcing the launch of the championship. Major General Khalid Al-Attiyah, President of the Arab Police Sports Federation, also delivered a speech on the occasion, expressing his gratitude to the organizing committee and appreciating Iraq’s pivotal role in the Arab sports arena and its excellent hosting of this major event.

The competitions then commenced, marked by excitement and strong competition among male and female participants. The results saw the Egyptian team win first place in the men’s team race, followed by Algeria in second place and Iraq in third. In the women’s team race, Morocco secured first place, followed by Egypt in second and Iraq in third.

At the conclusion of the competitions, the Minister of Interior crowned the winners and presented medals in a celebratory atmosphere that affirmed Iraq’s success in hosting this Arab sports event and its role in strengthening fraternal relations among the participating countries.

The University of Baghdad, represented by the Student Activities Department, played an active role in the success of this major Arab sports event by hosting competitions on its fields and preparing its facilities to serve the participating delegations. This reflects its academic and athletic stature and its continuous support for activities that promote Arab cooperation and affirm its presence as a key venue for international events in Iraq.

This activity contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, Goal 4: Quality education, Goal 5: Gender equality, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice, and build effective institutions, and Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
