Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Al-Zughaybi, President of the University of Baghdad, led a distinguished academic delegation on an official visit to the University of Sulaimani to discuss mechanisms for activating the strategic memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions. The dialogue focused on translating the agreement into actionable programs that advance academic and research collaboration.
Professor Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, President of the University of Sulaimani, welcomed the delegation alongside his deputies and several deans. The Baghdad team included Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, Vice President for Scientific Affairs; Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashimi, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Professor Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Aidani, Dean of Al-Kindi College of Medicine; Professor Dr. Sabah Munfi Ridha, Dean of the College of Administration and Economics; and Dr. Ali Abdul Hassan Al-Jizani.
During the meeting, Al-Zughaybi emphasized the importance of implementing the agreement’s provisions to strengthen scientific partnership, expand expertise exchange, and align research outputs with societal needs and development priorities.
The session also addressed future cooperation plans, underscoring the necessity of joint teamwork to elevate the academic standing of both universities, maximize shared scientific capacities, and enhance the quality of education and research. Participants highlighted the historical role of the University of Baghdad as Iraq’s “mother university” and stressed the pursuit of advanced positions in global rankings.
This initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
