The meetings were chaired by Dr. Margarete van Ess, Scientific Director of the Department of the Orient, and attended by Prof.Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage, and Prof.Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qaisi from the College of Arts.
The discussions focused on the final draft of the bylaws of the Iraqi-German Center for Archaeology and Assyriology, which is expected to complete its establishment procedures in the coming months. The two sides also explored prospects for academic and research cooperation, as well as opportunities the Center will provide for postgraduate students and specialized researchers in archaeology, humanities, and social sciences, particularly through fellowship programs and joint research support.
Prof.Dr. Ali Abdul Amir Sajit affirmed the University of Baghdad’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities to ensure the success of the project, stressing the Center’s importance in enhancing the University’s international standing. Dr. van Ess welcomed this significant step in academic relations, noting that the Center will serve as a solid scientific platform for developing bilateral research projects.
