The Arabic Language Safety Unit at the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held a celebration to commemorate the Arabic Language Day. The official of the Arabic Language Safety Unit, Dr. Shaima Muhammad Obaid, pointed out during the opening of the celebration that “the Arabic language is one of the Semitic and living languages, as it gained beauty and creativity from the beauty of its letters when it is spoken, heard and written when the tongue moves and manifests rhetoric, eloquence, wonderful images, and many meanings, and this is what distinguishes the Holy Quran.”

She explained that “on this day, the world celebrates the International Day of the Arabic Language because it is the day on which the United Nations General Assembly in 1973 adopted its historic decision that the Arabic language should be the sixth official language in the Organization.” At the end of the ceremony, the students and attendees participated in a number of activities, which included reading poetry, as well as presenting a summary of the Arabic language.
