The Arabic Language Integrity Unit at the College of Media, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Impact of Local Dialects in Circumventing Artificial Intelligence Algorithms”, with the participation of several faculty members and students interested in digital media and linguistics.
The workshop, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Safad Hussam Hammoudi, addressed the relationship between local dialects and artificial intelligence systems, and explored how linguistic diversity can influence algorithmic outputs, particularly in areas such as text analysis and content monitoring.
It also highlighted the challenges faced by AI systems in comprehending non-standard dialects, and examined the potential exploitation of these gaps to bypass certain digital screening or filtering tools, while emphasizing the importance of promoting responsible use of modern technologies.
The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Nibras Hussein Mahawash, Head of the Arabic Language Integrity Unit, who underscored the necessity of preserving the integrity of the Arabic language and keeping pace with technological advancements to enhance both media and research performance.
This workshop forms part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Arabic Language Integrity Unit, aimed at raising linguistic and technical awareness among students of the College, and strengthening their skills in utilizing AI tools within the media field. It aligns with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal, “Quality Education”, by fostering digital learning competencies and improving students’ proficiency in engaging with modern technologies.
