Recently, a master’s thesis was discussed by the student Mohammed Abdul Wahid Abdul Zahra and supervised by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nada Mutter Abbas in the Department of Chemistry, College of Science at the University of Baghdad, entitled “Synthesis, Diagnosis, and bioactivity evaluation of Some Nanocomposites Derived from Polypropylene and Some Metal Oxides”.

The aim of the research was to prepare nanocomposites of polypropylene polymer and oxides of some elements prepared in two ways, and to study their biological effectiveness as inhibitors of bacteria and fungi. Some compounds showed high effectiveness as antioxidants compared to (vitamin C) through a cytotoxic study to evaluate the toxic effect of nanocomposites on cells, a cell line (MCF-7 breast cancer) compared to a normal cell line (HdFn human dermal fibroblasts, newborns).

The research concluded that there is an importance for metallic nanoparticles to impart desirable and new properties to the polymer matrix such as durability and high temperature resistance, in order to ensure the safety of the product, nanoparticles were prepared in a green way and to study the biological effectiveness of the product.
