The professor at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Post Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. “Issam Fadel Alwan,” took part in the inaugural inventors’ forum held at the Kufa Mosque in Najaf Governorate. The event was sponsored by the Independent Media Team in collaboration with the Kufa Mosque Secretariat, the attached shrines, and the Najaf Anwar Foundation. Dr. Essam participated by presenting his patent, “a new therapeutic substance for different cancer cells using the natural, diagnosed glycoquine purified from the leaves of the camel’s slipper plant.”
The patent aimed at an experimental application for the treatment of cancerous tumors by using chloroquine purified from the leaves of the camel slipper plant, by partial separation and purification of the glucochnine substance from the crude methanolic extract of the leaves of the camel slipper plant.
The laboratory results of the patent proved the possibility of purifying chloroquine by chromatography, which are easy and costly methods, and this process can be done in the laboratories of the relevant ministries. Glucoquine is a safe substance that does not affect the various activities of the body and does not give any negative effect, with the possibility of using the substance as an aid to insulin to control the level of sugar in the blood for diabetics. As a result, patents was awarded a gold medal and a participation certificate at the forum.
