The Department of French Language at the College of Languages, in collaboration with the University of Artois in France, held a video lecture as part of the recently signed cooperation agreement between the two universities. The lecture, titled “The French Language and the Importance of Teaching French for Specialized Purposes in Iraqi Universities,” took place on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11:00 am Baghdad time, using the Zoom application.

The lecture was attended by Assist.Prof.Dr. Ali Adnan and Assist. Prof.Dr. Jafar Abdul Zahra Al-Mousawi, the Head of the French Language Department, along with faculty members and students of the department. The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Jean-Marc Mangeant, the Head of the French Language Department at the University of Artois. Professor Mangeant presented modern methods and techniques for teaching French as a foreign language, particularly for specialized purposes, and discussed the difficulties and challenges that language learners may encounter in these contexts. He also answered questions and inquiries from the faculty members and students, including the possibility of integrating a French language class at the University of Baghdad with a French class at the University of Artois.

This first scientific activity between the two universities falls within the framework of the agreement signed between them. The scientific coordinator between the universities, Assist.Prof.Dr. Taghreed Abdul Zahra Aboud, contributed to the preparation and coordination of this video lecture. This activity highlights the importance of activating the agreement, which will contribute to improving the level of French language education at the University of Baghdad, developing professional skills for the members, and enhancing the linguistic and cultural proficiency of Iraqi students at university level.
