The University of Baghdad has hosted a workshop on the sustainable and smart cities at the Mahdi Hantoush Hall at the College of Engineering, the workshop was held in cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Iraqi National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, in the presence of Dr. Ammar Taha, Director of the International Organizations Department in the Department of Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Marwan Ashour, Assistant Rector for Scientific Affairs, and Dr. Difaf Ibrahim, Head of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, Dr. Manal Al-Kubaisi, Director of the Department Studies and Planning, and a number of Professors.

The symposium included lectures by professors and researchers from Arab countries and focused on achieving sustainable development goals and spreading environmental awareness and its role in conserving resources and distributing them to successive generations, and working with all partners practically to be able to make the right choices to improve life in a sustainable way for future generations , the workshop lingered for four days.

It is mentioned that sustainable and smart cities are innovative cities that use ICTs to improve the quality of life, efficiency of urban operations and services, and competitiveness to satisfy the economic, social, environmental, and cultural needs of current and future generations.
