The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, has organized a workshop entitled (Sustainability through Structural Consolidation of Reinforced Concrete Structures) headed by the Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein Alwan al-Zuhairi and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mervat Razzaq al-Taie, in the presence of the associate dean and a number of faculty members and postgraduate students. The lecturers referred to the importance of using modern technologies in strengthening and consolidating structures constructed of reinforced concrete for increasing their design life, which leads to increasing the design life of these facilities and avoiding their demolition with an increase in the quantities of construction waste that may lead to a damage to large areas of agricultural land.

Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein al-Zuhairi talked about the strategies of strengthening and structural support, standards and determinants in choosing any type of its types, and presented three different cases of sites in Iraq whose facility has been strengthened using modern support methods. Then the Assist. Prof. Dr. Mervat Razzaq spoke about the international standards related to sustainability and the United Nations Convention in this regard and the objectives of applying the terms of this agreement, then each doctoral student at the department of civil engineering explained one method of strengthening concrete structures.
