The Center for Market Research and Consumer Protection at the University of Baghdad has organized a panel discussion entitled (Modern Pharmacology and Herbal Medicine: the Meeting Point) presented by the center’s lecturer Huda Hamid Kazim. The lecture dealt with a research paper conducted recently through the use of three types of herbs, namely the peel of the pomegranate fruit, the thuja leaf and tobacco leaf, where they were used as a primary treatment for three types of farm animals, cows, sheep and goats, where these herbs were used in powder form or in an aqueous preparation as an ointment.

The study has reached at convincing results and enables the use of these herbs with more accurate field experiments, since the extracted substances were taken from the herbs leading to more effective results. Also the study concluded that tobacco which is harmful and a major cause of many heart and lung diseases and cancer when smoking showed the possibility of exploiting this herb to eliminate parasites or expel them when using topical or can find another property of this herb of scientific benefit.
