The Coordination of the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the National Center for Population and Demographic Studies, represented by Dr. Muna Abdul Nabi, in cooperation with the Center for Women’s Studies and within a campaign for 16 days has organized lecturer to combat violence against women within a workshop entitled (Addressing Violence against Women) in which Assist. Prof. Dr. Azra Ismail Zeidan, the director of the center for women’s studies, and Dr. Abeer Al-Khalidi in the presence of the director of the center, Dr. Nasr Shamil Salman, and the faculty members of the center.
The workshop aimed to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls worldwide and to call for global action to raise awareness and promote advocacy towards that goal. During the workshop, methods and types of violence and psychological effects were discussed, and the need to activate laws and legislation that support women and advance their reality was discussed, as well as the problem of protecting women from domestic violence in the light of international and Iraqi legislation, as well as this phenomenon witnessed in Iraq through several physical, psychological or verbal acts and how to reduce it.
