Under the supervision of the dean of the college of pharmacy at the University of Baghdad, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sarmad Hashem al-Khatib, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Ibn Sina Unit for E-Learning, held an electronic scientific lecture delivered by the Assist. Prof. Dr. Samer Emad Muhammad from the Clinical Pharmacy Branch, on the optimal use of the drug for elderly patients.
The lecturer presented a research paper on “Prescribing medicines for elderly patients” aimed at identifying the most important problems facing the process of prescription medicines for this category of patients, how to identify physiological changes in the body and their impact on the response to treatment, and learn the most important effective ways to confront the errors that may occur due to the wrong use and ensure the safe their effective use of drugs, herbs or nutritional. The lecture included various themes such as: differences in drug kinetics in elderly patients and their impact on the amount of drug doses, as well as methods of optimal prescription of drugs, knowledge of physiological changes that occur due to age and the relationship between the amount of drug doses and body reaction.
