In the celebration of the Iraqi Science Day, the University of Baghdad was ranked in the first place locally in the competition sponsored by His Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel Saheb, for being the best Iraqi university in global rankings. Prof. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad was honored with a certificate of appreciation, as well as 8 other awards and certificates of thanks were dedicated to professors and researchers of our prestigious university for their distinguished community service and creative researches that have become as an accredited reference for their sobriety, according to QS and TIMES rankings.

His Excellency the minister of higher education stated during his speech that the University of Baghdad witnessed an increase in number of published research by (62%), as well as an increase in number of citations by (13%), commending its role in enhancing the academic reputation and scientific status of the country in scientific competitions with other world’s prestigious universities, praising the initiatives of professors, researchers and students who have joined efforts during the current critical circumstances under the Coronavirus pandemic to achieve the goals of higher education in Iraq qualitatively, taking into account the renewable requirements of people, adding at the same time that Iraq has risen to the 45th place globally, the 6th place in the Middle East and to the 3rd place in the Arab world in publishing academic researches along with Arab, regional and global counterparts.

It is noteworthy that more than 60 professors and researchers were honored in this event, for their distinguished researches published in international journals, in addition to other awards given for best patents, inventions, translated books, best Iraqi scientific journals, best student creative voluntary encouragement work, top student’s graduation projects, the best distinguished research center or unit in the fields of medical, health, engineering, technology, pure & social sciences, agriculture and humanities. The rectors of the universities of Kufa, Al-Mustansiriya, Babylon, Basra and Technology were also honored in this annual celebration for recording advanced positions in QS and TIMES rankings.
