The college of dentistry at the University of Baghdad held a specialized workshop entitled “Autism Spectrum Disorders and Covid-19 (ASD)” in collaboration with the International Federation of Medical Students of Iraq (IFMSA), attended by students of general medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
The workshop dealt with several topics, including an explanation of the concept of autism spectrum disorder which is a complex developmental condition that involves persistent challenges in social interaction, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as restricted & repetitive behaviors where the effects of ASD and the severity of its symptoms are different in each person. The lecturers then discussed how to deal with, help and treat an individual with autism spectrum disorders under Covid-19 pandemic. Also how people with autism coexist in the context of social distancing the use of sterilizers, including a range of diseases characterized by poor social behavior, communication and linguistic skills to some extent, in addition to treatment of other associated illnesses including epilepsy, depression and anxiety with hyperplasia.
