The department of biology, in cooperation with Ibn Sina unit for e-learning and the continuing education unit at the college of science held a virtual scientific lecture entitled “Drug plants: their types, chemical compounds and impact on human health” with the participation of a number of students and those concerned with agricultural, chemical and medical affairs.
The lecture aimed to identify the types of plants that contain narcotic compounds and their impact on human health, including toxic chemical compounds and how such substances are made and used, in addition to identifying the places of cultivation and exportation. The lecture was given by the Assist. Lecturer Laith Zuhair Fadel who reviewed some narcotic substances of plant origin known for a long time, such as opium poppy, which is an immature fruit, cannabis, khat , coca and nutmeg which can be easily smuggled to be manufactured or prepared for illegal trade.
