Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail, the director of the Women’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad has participated recently in a meeting of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Committee held and sponsored by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, headed by the Director General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department, Dr. Yusra Karim Mohsen.
The meeting aimed at evaluating the achievements of the previous stage and reconsidering the priorities of the Iraqi government by discussing ways to enhance the economic work environment for women in various governorates. The meeting included an emphasis on developing common visions between the government, including the Kurdistan region for the next stage, through partnership with the World Bank to help Iraq achieve the requirements of economic empowerment and gender response. The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations, including forming a legal team to review legislation and laws on economic empowerment, preparing data and surveys on entrepreneurship, developing a database of women working in this field, supporting women in rural areas and agricultural projects, namely in villages, as well as preparing a financial inclusion report for working women in public and private sectors.
