The continuing education unit at Al-Khwarizmi college of engineering, in cooperation with the department of biochemical engineering held a training course entitled (Methods of examining samples using UV device). The objective of the course is to train researchers and postgraduate students on how to work on the UV spectrophotometer used for measuring the concentrations of metals, dyes, pharmaceutical compounds, industrial chemicals, biological fluids and foods.
The course dealt with the basic concepts of spectral analysis and an explanation of the absorption property as well as the types and characteristics of solvents used. The course also reviewed the mathematical laws adopted in optical measurements and how to examine laboratory samples with an emphasis on the following devices: Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/Vis), Infrared (IR) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry which are the most commonly used techniques capable of providing information the scientists need.
