The department of chemistry, in cooperation with the continuing education unit and Ibn Sina unit for e-learning at the college of science organized a recently a virtual workshop entitled “Shedding light on the magnetic properties of some carbon nanotubes” in the presence of a number of students and researchers concerned with this topic.

The workshop aimed to identify the magnetic and molecular characteristics of nanotubes in general, and what results from the movement of electrons in molecules in particular which is an important field in chemistry, in addition to clarifying its aromatic characteristics that is one of the topics directly related to molecular magnetism. The workshop was presented by Dr. Muntazer Abdul Bari who indicated that the magnetic properties cannot be calculated via practical methods, but rather in a theoretical form, since this study relies on the quantum mechanical methods that allow a high level of accuracy, provided that some of the constraints imposed by experiments are not too computationally demanding to reproduce.
