The department of computer science at the college of science has sponsored recently a virtual workshop entitled “The risks of drug addiction and its impact on public health” with the participation of a number of students, professors and those concerned with the educational and health affairs.

The lectures were delivered by Dr. Faten Abd Ali al-Bayati, Assist. Lecturer Ghusoon Ghazi Mohammed, Assist. Lecturer Nahla Abdul Rahman and the Lecturer Shaimaa Dhia al-Din with the aim to introduce the dangers of drug addiction, causes and harms from the psychological, religious, social, legal and health perspectives and the most effective methods of prevention from such one of the strongest scourges of the modern times besides poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and epidemics. Also they addressed the prominent obstacles to growth of communities across the world and the bad use of nature resources, that all drive man to destroy his body and mind, making him as unproductive human being. The pointed out that one of the reasons behind this bad behavior is the weak religious sentiment, family neglect, reconnaissance, curiosity and the misconception that drugs remove anxiety, boredom and depression.
