The psychological counseling and educational guidance unit at the college of education for women held an extensive symposium on (Domestic violence and its effects on the family) through Google Meet service. The lecturers highlighted the concept of domestic violence, its patterns, manifestations, causes and the most affected groups, identifying the motives for domestic violence and identifying its physical, behavioral, psychological and social effects, as well as the methods and procedures adopted for preventing it.
At first, the participants addressed the concept of violence as a behavior directed at intentionally harming others, involving any physical force intended to hurt, damage, kill someone or something. Violence against women is a clear and explicit violation of human rights since it is intended to prevent women from enjoying their full rights, so it has serious consequences not only for women, but also for society as a whole. The symposium concluded that a convention should be ratified on the elimination of all forms of violence against women and to punish anyone who engages in this conduct in accordance with laws and legislation in force, in addition to the need for compensating women who have been subjected to violence, developing preventive approaches, along with legal, political, administrative and comprehensive cultural measures to strengthen the protection of women from such offences.
