The center for the revival of Arab scientific heritage at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Women’s Studies Center has organized recently a workshop on the “National Women’s Legislative Observatory” with the aim to establishing such a legislative observatory in the country in order to build a unified and solid knowledge system that undertakes scientific statistics on Iraqi women’s affairs that will help monitor the draft laws before being ratified by the Iraqi Parliament, especially those that need to be amended to suit the current requirements and the reality of women’s needs at the present time along with an electronic feedback for all official and international bodies concerned with women in general.

The workshop included lectures on the imperative to find a mechanism to monitor Iraqi legislation according to international conventions that have been ratified, taking into account the needs of women and men, although the Iraqi constitution guarantees the prevention of all forms of discrimination, inequality, violence and abuse in the family and society.
