The department of chemistry at the college of science for women has sponsored lately a virtual workshop entitled (the safe use of sterilizers and detergents) in cooperation between the department of Scientific Care Service at the ministry of youth and sports via FCC platform with the participation of 270 professors and students with the aim to explain the side effects resulting from the incorrect or excessive use of these materials, including irritation, skin abnormalities or allergies, as well as diseases that may affect the respiratory system.  The workshop included a lecture presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nasser Diaa Shaalan in which he explained the important role of sterilizers at the present time for avoiding the risk of infection with Coronavirus, with the need to know how to use them cautiously so that they would not cause any health problems later.

Dr. Nasser Diaa also asserted that, in light of the precautionary atmosphere imposed by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, most home women exaggerate in disinfecting homes by using sterile materials in large quantities, but they discover then that such materials may be more harmful than the microbes themselves if they are not used correctly. The chemicals accumulated in the cupboards might have frightening side effects on our health when we breathe their vapors or spray mists, or absorb them into our skin, so there is an increasing need to educate people about the danger of these toxins that make up these cleaners and how to deal with, in addition the need for using natural or other safe materials.
