The department of earth sciences, in cooperation with the continuing education unit at the college of science has organized an international virtual workshop entitled “Structural origin and kinematics of fracture corridors in the Anadarko Basin” with the participation of a number of students, researchers, and those concerned with geology from Iraqi and foreign universities. The workshop was presented by Dr. Molly Turko, a structural geology expert at the University of Oklahoma, USA, with the aim to review the development of the Anadarko Basin and the mechanism of formation of deformations and rock structures by explaining the dynamics of cracks and how to use these data in predicting the formation and distribution of small structures that cannot be distinguished by seismic surveys.
The workshop was administrated via Zoom program within the framework of mutual communication and coordination with international universities and openness to the fields of scientific and academic development, especially in studying oil reservoirs in Kirkuk, Diyala, Bai Hasan and Jambour fields, confirming that they are characterized by positive inverted structures with not completely clear seismic images, indicating the possibility of the existence of synthetic traps associated with small cracks and fractured reservoirs. It is noteworthy that the topic of this online workshop is one of the most unreported topics that have been addressed before.
