Dr. Zuhair Kadhim Jahanger, a professor from the department of water resources engineering at the University of Baghdad has participated recently in the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Engineering and Materials Science sponsored by the University of Technology under the auspices of four international academic institutions from Iraq, Malaysia, Japan and Australia where all researches will be published by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) that has a site score of 0.6 and approved by the ministry of higher education and scientific research.
Dr. Zuhair Kadhim presented a research paper entitled “Foundation relative stiffness effects in sand under static loading” in which he investigated the behavior and effects of relative stiffness in stress distribution and soil deformation field by using a compression test for smooth strip foundations on sand surface of different packing densities. Nine experimental tests were used for three foundation materials (plastic (P), rubber (R) and aluminum (A)) that differ in relative stiffness along with three densities of sandy soils. The researcher tried to determine the failure mechanism using digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) measurement in order to carry out several careful analyses of stress, failure mechanisms and velocity fields.
