The department of policy research and legislation at the center for women’s studies organized an extensive symposium on (The mother’s rights in child custody between legal texts and Iraqi society) via FCC app. The lecturers highlighted the most important problems facing this issue in the country and how it is addressed under the Iraqi constitution 2005 in force and the law of personal status amended No. 188 in 1969, with an explanation of the position of the Supreme Constitutional Court and the Supreme Judicial Council in this regard.

Then they discussed the current trend demanding to repeal the article 57 and to adopt the previous article as it was, because of the harm it causes to the child under custody and concluded with some important recommendations concerning the preservation of the child’s interest along with achieving justice for both parents.
