The center for urban and regional planning for postgraduate studies held a virtual workshop on (the challenges of sustainable cities in the current situation) delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nada Khalifa Mohammed Al-Rikabi. This workshop is part of a series of specialized workshops in collaboration with UN organizations on city planning and management in the light of disasters and crises with the aim to address the effects of the Corona pandemic on city planning.

During their speeches, the university rector, Prof. Dr. Imad Hussein al-Husseni and dean of the center Prof. Dr. Karim Hassan Alwan praised this initiative along with the university’s support and guidance in contributing its formations to reduce the impact of the epidemic on our country and society. The members addressed the concept of the smart city, its principles and how to deal with the social aspects of health, housing, lifestyle and environment to reduce polluting emissions as well as in enhancing air quality, waste control, not to mention the economic aspects of sustainable employment and investment. It is worth mentioning that this event witnessed the participation of 603 professors from Iraq, USA, Algeria, Bulgaria, Egypt, India, Russia, Turkey, France, Romania and the Netherlands.
