The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at Ibn al-Haitham college of education for pure and applied sciences organized an event on “Emo Subculture: The most dangerous behavior among young people, especially girls” with the aim to discuss this phenomenon, its causes and spread among young people, implications and consequences on the Iraqi society.

The lecturers identified it as an aberrant culture that encourages deviation from moral values and a sense of sadness, gloom, pessimism as well as disgusting haircuts of the common sense that may sometimes reach to the point of suicide and deviation from social values towards irresponsible openness and spread among girls’ behavior and actions similar to men and vice versa. The researchers recommended emphasizing the study of religion and activating its role in combating abnormal phenomena, respecting and appreciating the nature of society, culture, customs and traditions in adhering to its Islamic identity in order to prevent the blind imitation of boredom and deviant groups, as well as focusing on the usefulness of involving in scientific works as well as cultural and sports competitions.
