Head of the department of research and studies at the center for market research and consumer protection, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamdia Mohammed Shahwan al-Hamdani has participated recently in a conference sponsored by the department of biotechnologies at the college of science under the slogan (Biotechnology as the main pillar of the advancement of science) with a research paper entitled (Bioactive and plant chemical analysis of Acacia farnesiana extract against bacteria and antioxidants).

This research based mainly on the interpretation of the conclusions of scientific research regarding the biochemical compounds of any plant known for its therapeutic effect on many common diseases, in terms of the spread and proliferation of these bushes in Iraq in a way offer an opportunity to exploit them in scientific applications beneficial to the consumer.

The findings showed that Acacia leaves contain large amounts of biochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, glycosides and phenols also that leaf extract has similar antioxidant activity with ascorbic acid which calls for further research on its active ingredients.
