President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Atiya, received Maj. Gen. Mohsen Kazem Alak, Director General of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, and his delegation at the university headquarters to advance joint cooperation. The visit followed directives from the Prime Minister, underscoring national support for integrated safety systems at Baghdad University.
The delegation congratulated Prof. Atiya on assuming leadership of Iraq’s oldest academic institution, wishing him success in steering it toward further progress. Discussions focused on enhancing safety measures and readiness for emergencies across campus, with Civil Defense pledging full support—specialized equipment, awareness programs, training courses, and regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Both sides emphasized the importance of joint field practices, including evacuation drills, to embed a culture of safety and ensure preparedness of faculty, staff, and students. Prof. Atiya affirmed the university’s commitment to facilitating Civil Defense missions and achieving the highest safety benchmarks.
This initiative advances multiple Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
