The University of Baghdad Council held its first session for the 2026–2027 academic year, chaired by the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hassan Al-Zughaibi, and attended by all Council members, to discuss a number of academic and scientific matters on its agenda.
During the session, the Council approved a comprehensive plan (2026–2030) aimed at advancing the University of Baghdad’s position in the Shanghai Rankings and achieving the academic and research performance indicators associated with the ranking’s requirements, thereby supporting the University’s presence and competitiveness at the international level.
President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hassan Al-Zughaibi, affirmed that, through this plan, the University aspires to achieve gradual annual progress in the Shanghai Rankings, ultimately advancing its position to be among the top 1,000 universities worldwide.
It is worth noting that the University of Baghdad has achieved advanced standing in a number of prestigious global rankings, including the QS World University Rankings, the Times Higher Education Rankings, the SCImago Institutions Rankings, and the US News Rankings, reflecting the development of its academic and research performance and the enhancement of its presence and competitiveness at both the regional and international levels.
