The University of Baghdad Council, chaired by Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Atiya, convened its fifteenth session for the 2025–2026 academic year. The meeting addressed key academic and administrative priorities, resulting in directives to strengthen institutional integration, update curricula to international standards, and reinforce the quality of teaching and research.
Decisions included incentives for faculty publishing in leading journals, particularly Scopus Q1, alongside measures to ease administrative burdens for distinguished researchers and ensure adherence to ethical publishing. The Council emphasized digital transformation, infrastructure development, laboratory upgrades, and improved student services, while also advancing plans to evaluate research centers, compile precise publishing data, and design five-year strategies aligned with global rankings.
On financial and administrative matters, the Council underscored the importance of timely financial commitments, securing staff salaries, and fair exam monitoring schedules. These initiatives contribute directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education (SDG 4), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
