Members of the Engineering Journal, including Editor-in-Chief Professor Dr. Nadia Adnan, Lecturer Dr. Qusay Medhat, and Dr. Iman Munadhel, took part in the inaugural conference for editorial boards of Iraqi scientific journals, hosted by the University of Technology.

Held under the theme “Advancing Iraqi Journals Toward Excellence”, the conference was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Scientific Research Affairs, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, along with college deans, journal editors-in-chief, and editorial board members.

The conference aimed to enhance the quality of Iraqi scientific journals, expand their presence in global indexing databases, support international research partnerships, and establish their role as credible platforms for scientific and intellectual dialogue.

The participation of the Engineering Journal reflected its active presence in the academic landscape and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the scientific publishing system and elevating Iraqi journals to international standards.

In his address, the Minister of Higher Education emphasized that the conference serves as a vital national platform for supporting Iraqi journals and strengthening their research visibility. He noted that over the past three years, the Ministry has successfully institutionalized quality standards and broadened the scope of scientific publishing, positioning Iraqi universities as key contributors to the global education system.

The Undersecretary delivered a lecture titled “Iraqi Journals: A Journey of Development and Steps Toward Global Leadership”, presenting detailed statistics on the 468 accredited Iraqi journals, including 56 in engineering, 80 in medicine, and 201 in science. He highlighted a significant increase in the number of Iraqi journals indexed in Scopus, rising from 7 in 2022 to 42 currently—an impressive growth compared to other countries in the region.

The conference also featured lectures by experts from Elsevier, Clarivate, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and ASF Foundation via Zoom, along with a panel discussion on mechanisms for improving Iraqi journals and enhancing their competitiveness on the international stage.

This conference contributes to two Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
