The General Secretariat of the Central Library at the University of Baghdad organized a specialized scientific workshop on the Koha Library Management System, in collaboration with the Department of Scientific Affairs at the Research and Development Directorate of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The session was attended by Dr. Marwan Abdul Razzaq Matar, Head of University Library Development, and Dr. Taysir Fawzi Radif, Secretary-General of the Central Library.
The workshop was delivered by a representative of Sama Al-Iraq Company, the entity responsible for installing and activating Koha. It aimed to introduce the mechanisms of the ministry-approved electronic system as a unified platform for managing academic information resources. The session clarified the steps for uploading and integrating university library data—including books, theses, and dissertations—into a shared database linking the University of Baghdad, Al-Nahrain University, and the Iraqi University.
Participants were guided through a practical demonstration of the system, beginning with login procedures and data entry for both print and electronic materials. The workshop also highlighted new updates, such as notification services for book reservations and improved internal lending processes for theses and dissertations, ensuring greater efficiency.
The event concluded with an open discussion, allowing participants to exchange perspectives and raise inquiries. This interactive dialogue reinforced understanding, advanced the workshop’s objectives, and underscored the importance of digital transformation in enhancing university library services.
By aligning with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal on quality education and the seventeenth goal on strengthening partnerships, this initiative reflects the University of Baghdad’s commitment to institutional development and global academic integration.
