The Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Prof.Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashimi, held an extensive meeting with the specialized committee overseeing the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions. The meeting was attended by the Dean of Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, Prof.Dr. Wadoud Taher Mohammed, along with a number of faculty members and specialists, to discuss the final steps before launching the initiative within the university’s departments.

This initiative aims to engage faculty, staff, and students in sustainable development projects particularly in areas such as solar energy, energy consumption rationalization, and studies on climate and the environment both on and off campus. It also seeks to establish a research foundation for producing joint scientific studies in fields such as environmental law, sustainable energy management, and the implementation of international environmental commitments.

Dr. Al-Hashimi emphasized that the university continues its active coordination with relevant entities involved in the initiative, through the signing of agreements and the organization of specialized workshops, in order to raise environmental awareness among students and staff and to support the university’s orientation toward clean energy and carbon emission reduction.

The committee recommended a number of actions to activate the initiative, including the signing of memoranda of understanding for academic and training cooperation, the organization of development workshops to enhance the skills of students and staff in the field of sustainable energy, and the support of university research aimed at developing mechanisms to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. The committee also stressed the importance of strengthening media programs in coordination with the College of Media to inform the public with accurate information on environmental and clean energy issues.

This activity contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 13: Climate Action, and Goal 15: Life on Land.
