The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad took part in the events of “Iraqi Political Science Day”, organized by the University of Kurdistan – Hewlêr (UKH) in collaboration with the American University of Baghdad. The event brought together a distinguished group of Iraqi universities—including the University of Baghdad, Salahaddin University, Sulaimani University, Cihan University, and UKH—with the participation of academics, researchers, and students from across the country.

This national academic platform aimed to promote dialogue and the exchange of expertise among specialists in political science and international relations. It focused on highlighting political transformations in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the broader region, while providing analytical readings on current challenges and strategic directions.

The event featured over 25 scientific research presentations delivered in Arabic, Kurdish, and English, supported by real-time translation. Sessions were distributed across several themes, including international political economy, governance, regional politics, social dynamics, and disputed territories.

The University of Baghdad distinguished itself through its active and impactful participation, with a delegation of faculty members contributing both research and organizational efforts:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Hisham Ezzedine Majid – Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs: served as a member of the scientific committee, contributed to paper evaluations and session coordination, and played a key role in the organizational success of the event.
  • Lecturer Hala Samer Youssef – Member of the scientific and organizing committee: assisted in research selection, coordinated session themes, and participated in the closing panel discussing the future of political science in Iraqi universities, offering critical insights into academic challenges and curriculum development.
  • Lecturer Abrar Jawad Kazem – Presented a paper titled “The US–China Trade War and Its Role in Reshaping Global Alliances”, exploring how great-power economic competition is influencing the international system.
  • Lecturer Rand Louay Abdulhadi – Delivered a study titled “The Effectiveness of the Women’s Quota in Iraq”, examining its impact on female political representation and the sociocultural barriers to genuine empowerment.
  • Lecturer Ziyad Alu Attallah – Presented a paper titled “Ethnic and Religious Diversity and Its Impact on Iraq’s Foreign Policy Orientation Post-2010”, discussing how such diversity can be harnessed to serve national interests and bolster Iraq’s international standing.

This event contributes to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by fostering academic cooperation and informed dialogue to address critical socio-political issues.
