Researchers from the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad—Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Basheer Al-Tawil, Professor Dr. Abdul Basit Ahmed Fattallah, and Assistant Lecturer Ban Zuhair Ahmed—have received a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. This achievement forms part of Dr. Ban Zuhair Ahmed’s doctoral research and was awarded for their successful development of a novel nanocomposite compound.

The invention aims to offer effective treatment solutions by enhancing efficacy and reducing potential side effects. The zinc-magnesium oxide nanocomposite shows great promise in advancing medical and dental technologies, as well as improving patient outcomes.

The patented compound is applicable in both medical and dental fields due to its unique properties and potential uses. Following extensive testing and evaluations, these nanocomposites demonstrated encouraging results in drug formulation, wound healing, and tissue engineering. Additionally, the zinc-magnesium oxide nanoparticles exhibited antimicrobial properties, making them ideal for dental applications such as the prevention of periodontal diseases and the treatment of tooth decay.

This scientific milestone contributes to the fulfillment of several Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
