Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mshoush, Dean of the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad, welcomed a delegation from the Goethe Institute, which included Mr. Claas Walter, Director of the German Language Department (Deputy Director of the Institute), and Mr. Ghassan Al-Maamar. The meeting was attended by the college’s assistant deans and Assistant Professor Maysun Ali, Head of the German Language Department.
The discussions centered on ways to develop the German Language Department through academic and cultural exchange programs with German institutions and universities. The delegation explored the introduction of modern curricula focused on enhancing communication and cultural skills, as well as providing free digital educational resources in collaboration with the Goethe Institute. Plans for summer courses in Germany for faculty members and students were also considered.
The dean emphasized the importance of support from the Goethe Institute and the German Embassy in facilitating opportunities for faculty and students to pursue studies in Germany. He also stressed the need to strengthen the German Corner at the college, ensuring special attention to the German Language Department, as it remains the only program of its kind in Iraq.
In response, Mr. Claas expressed his pleasure at visiting the College of Languages and affirmed the Goethe Institute’s commitment to expanding academic and cultural cooperation in Baghdad. He stated that his visit aimed to familiarize himself with the college, its faculty, and students, and to identify effective solutions for fully supporting the German Language Department.
This visit marks a significant step toward strengthening cultural and academic ties between the College of Languages and the Goethe Institute, fostering educational development within the German Language Department.
The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
