The College of Media at the University of Baghdad has inaugurated the 17th edition of the Radio and Television Department Festival for the academic year 2024–2025, under the theme: “Towards Specialized Radio and Television Media Addressing Environmental Risks and Discussing Solutions.”
The festival witnessed widespread academic and media attendance, where students presented a series of radio and television productions addressing environmental and climate issues through modern media techniques.
During the opening ceremony, the Dean of the College of Media, Professor Dr. Ammar Tahir Mohammed, delivered a speech emphasizing that “this festival serves as a practical model for student applications.” He commended the environmental themes explored in the showcased productions, adding that “university media plays a crucial role in environmental awareness and education.”
Similarly, the Head of the Radio and Television Department, Professor Dr. Haider Ahmed Alou Al-Qutbi, praised the quality of the submitted works and described the festival as an opportunity to highlight students’ talents in purposeful media production while employing their creative tools in service of environmental causes.
The festival featured student-produced documentaries and radio programs covering climate change, pollution, water scarcity, and waste management, while also presenting sustainable and conscious solutions.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
