The Department of Public Relations at the College of Media, University of Baghdad, organized a discussion session titled “Environmental Security and Its Impact on Iraq’s National Security.” The session was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Anam Abdul Redha Sultan and attended by several faculty members and students.
The discussion emphasized the importance of environmental security as a fundamental factor in achieving national stability. Dr. Anam Abdul Redha highlighted that environmental challenges, such as climate change, desertification, water scarcity, and pollution, have a direct impact on Iraq’s national security, as they contribute to social and economic crises that may lead to internal conflicts or security threats.
During the session, participants reviewed key policies and strategies that could be adopted to mitigate environmental risks and enhance environmental sustainability as part of national security efforts.
At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Anam stressed the importance of promoting environmental awareness and implementing preventive measures to protect natural resources. She also emphasized the role of youth and media in supporting environmental initiatives and achieving sustainable security.
This discussion aligns with Goal 13 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
