In a new step to follow up on academic relations between Iraq and Japan, the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, and the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof.Dr. Ali Abdul Amir Sajat, were guests of His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador in Baghdad, Mr. Akira Endo.
This meeting was held to follow up on the outcomes of the important visit of the University of Baghdad delegation to Japan in January 2025, which included significant meetings with the heads of major Japanese universities, as well as prominent organizations such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Foundation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the signing of the third academic cooperation agreement between the University of Baghdad and Sophia University in Tokyo, following the success of the previous memorandums of understanding with Chiba University in 2017 and JICA in 2023.
The President of the University also presented pioneering initiatives, such as the establishment of the Colleges of Excellence and Artificial Intelligence, and the project to create a Japanese Language Department at the College of Arts, which holds promising prospects for academic support from Japan.
Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan’s full support for these distinguished academic initiatives, praising the progress achieved by the University of Baghdad in the field of scientific research. He also announced Japan’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation through joint projects, programs for teaching and joint supervision, and the organization of international conferences between the two countries.
This meeting aligns with two Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4, Quality Education, and Goal 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
