The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Adel Al-Badawi, welcomed the Head of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant General Karim Al-Tamimi, to explore mechanisms for cooperation between academic institutions and national security agencies.
In his opening remarks, the Dean emphasized the importance of fostering a collaborative and integrated environment with state institutions, contributing to them through academic and scientific expertise. He also highlighted the value of joint scientific activities and workshops, which can play a pivotal role in applying research to key areas prioritized by national institutions.
Lieutenant General Al-Tamimi delivered a lecture entitled “Transitioning from Providing a Safe and Stable Environment to a State of Sustainable Security,” in which he discussed the establishment and evolution of the Counter-Terrorism Service, its operational conditions, responsibilities, and notable field battles undertaken to safeguard Iraq’s national security. He noted that the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service has attained significant international recognition, drawing the interest of many developed nations seeking to benefit from its field experience.
Al-Tamimi further explained that the Service is also focusing on enhancing its capabilities in cybersecurity. This is being pursued in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Iraqi universities, through initiatives that engage experts and skilled students in the field. He stressed the Service’s ongoing commitment to supporting the families of martyrs and the wounded, as well as its engagement with various community segments, including school and university students.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
