Professor Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed, Dean of the College of Media at the University of Baghdad, emphasized the importance of empowering media graduates to effectively enter the labor market through legislative and administrative measures that enhance their status and ensure their employment in both public and private sector institutions. His remarks came during a session hosted by the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Media.
The session was part of a specialized discussion focusing on support mechanisms for graduates, as well as the second draft of the Iraqi Media Network Law. During the meeting, Dr. Ammar Taher presented a series of professional and technical proposals that received notable attention from the parliamentary committee and served as a key component of the session’s final recommendations.
Among the most prominent adopted proposals was the issuance of a resolution mandating government institutions to exclusively appoint media graduates to manage their media offices. Another key proposal included requiring that no less than 50% of media personnel in the private sector hold specialized degrees in media and communication.
Committee Chairman Farouq Hanna praised Dr. Ammar’s proposals, noting that they contribute significantly to enhancing the professionalism of the Iraqi Media Network and strengthening its capacity to perform more effectively. He also affirmed that the committee would work to incorporate these recommendations into the upcoming draft law set to be presented for a parliamentary vote.
These initiatives by the Dean align with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s vision of achieving integration between academic institutions and the labor market. This includes updating academic curricula, fostering partnerships with media institutions, and creating an enabling environment that supports the employment of graduates in line with the evolving demands of the media landscape in Iraq.
