The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad held the Iraqi-British Conference on Orthopedic Surgery 2025, with the participation of a distinguished group of orthopedic surgery experts from Iraq and the United Kingdom, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Prof.Dr. Ameen Abdul Hassan Manaa Al-Alwani.
The conference, which is considered a significant scientific event in shaping the future of orthopedic surgery in Iraq and the region, aimed to exchange expertise and knowledge between Iraqi and British surgeons, explore the latest surgical techniques and methods in the field of orthopedic surgery, and enhance the skills of Iraqi surgeons, as well as improve the quality of medical services provided to patients.
In a speech, the Dean of the College of Medicine praised the prestigious historical legacy of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Fractures at the College, emphasizing that this department has always been a source of academic and scientific excellence, having graduated a distinguished group of professionals who have influenced the Iraqi medical field for decades. He also highlighted the contributions of the late pioneering surgeons from the faculty, whose significant efforts helped establish the scientific and training foundations for orthopedic surgery in Iraq.
The conference activities included scientific sessions covering the latest developments in joint and spinal surgery, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in the medical field. Additionally, specialized workshops were held. This conference serves as a unique platform for exchanging expertise and perspectives, aiming to unify efforts towards the development of the healthcare system in the country.
This conference aligns with two of the Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3, which calls for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, and Goal 17, which focuses on partnerships to achieve the goals.
