The University of Baghdad’s men’s tennis team secured victory in the Iraqi Universities Championship by defeating Ashur University in the final match with a score of 2-0, following an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. The final match took place on the courts of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, with participation from 47 public and private universities.
The match was attended by Professor Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Hassanein Basim, Director of the Student Activities Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Ali Sadiq Diyab, Director of the Student Activities Department at the University of Baghdad. They also participated in the award ceremony, presenting prizes to the top three teams.
Both teams delivered an exhilarating and competitive match. The University of Baghdad team demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament, securing first place and adding the trophy to the university’s impressive record of achievements. The players emphasized that their success was a result of hard work, determination, and a fighting spirit, which they identified as key ingredients for achieving their goals.
This accomplishment aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all ages, as well as Goal 17, which advocates for partnerships to achieve these objectives.
