On the occasion of International Women’s Day, and under the patronage of the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof.Dr. Baha Ibraheem Ansaf, and the supervision of the Director of Dormitory Affairs, Assist.Prof.Dr. Mohammed Bahjat Abdul Kareem, the Dormitory Department organized an educational and awareness-raising symposium titled “International Law for the Protection of Women and Children During Conflicts,” in collaboration with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society. The lecture was delivered by international trainer Wafa Mahmoud Abbas at the Al-Risala Student Housing Complex.
The symposium highlighted the significance of the Iraqi woman, who has shaped life throughout history and served as a foundational pillar of Iraqi civilization. It also addressed her vital role during wars and crises in providing psychological support to the family, and her rights under international humanitarian law concerning the protection of women and children. The students expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the dormitory administration for its commitment to empowering women and fostering their development as catalysts for stronger communities.
The event was attended by Shaimaa Ghazi Younis, Head of the Social Research Division; Hanan Abdullah Jawad, Supervisor of the Al-Risala Complex; Lama Fadel Hatim, Head of the Student Guidance Unit; Sahar Ali Abdul-Kadhim, social researcher; along with a large number of night and morning supervisors and students.
This symposium contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which calls for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
